I knew Stonehenge long before I arrived. It had already appeared in books, documentaries and my imagination — but the real place felt quieter and more open than any picture had suggested.
I kept photographing the distance between stone and sky. Somehow that space, as much as the monument itself, was what made the afternoon feel ancient.
